The idea behind the cells

Useful working.
Clearly explained.

For people who want to finish the task—and understand what changed.

Why this publication exists

A spreadsheet question usually starts in the middle of a workday. A lookup stops matching. A customer ID loses a zero. A monthly total misses a row. We focus on those concrete problems, with enough context to solve them safely.

GuideHollow Sheets is an independent, English-language publication maintained by emfls on GitHub. It belongs to the GuideHollow network, but its spreadsheet articles, data examples and tools are developed for this site. It is not affiliated with Microsoft or Google.

What makes an example useful

We show the input, a checkable expected result, and the conditions that can change the answer. Our launch library covers lookups, FILTER, date criteria, CSV imports, duplicate rows and cross-app formula differences.

Our code and correction history are in the public repository. “GuideHollow Sheets Editorial” is our editorial attribution, not a claim that a certified expert team or staffed newsroom performed every test.

Honest about testing

Our launch material was created with AI assistance and reviewed against linked official sources. Automated checks verify defined examples and tool behavior. We explicitly distinguish those checks from running Excel or Google Sheets. Fictional datasets are labeled as examples, and we do not invent product experience, credentials, client results or rankings.
